This site is a collection of resources in support of the "Models as Muse" exhibition at the Addison Gallery of American Art, which runs from January 27th to March 18th, 2007. From Columbus's Santa Maria to Boston's clipper Flying Cloud, the Addison's ship model collection was assembled by the museum's founders 75 years ago with the mission to promote appreciation of American maritime history. In this exhibition, the past and present merge as four contemporary artists create new site-specific works that respond to the ship models and relate their folklore, design, materials, and socio-economic impact on American culture.
